Top 5 Most Agonizing Moments of my Life

We all went through life, right? Well, I’ll take all of your answers as yes. Of course! We are all living, aren’t we? So, we all went through those “agonizing” and “excruciating” moments in our lives. Well, I’ve listed mine and ended up with the Top 5 on my list. Here it goes:

1. That period of waiting before the rain comes.

I lived in the Philippines, it’s a tropical country so we only have two seasons: Sunny and Rainy Seasons. During rainy seasons there will always be those days (yes days, the rain does stop during rainy seasons too!) wherein the sky would gather water from the ground before it pours everything heavily. Mind you, those days are extremely agonizing! Why you say? Not only that it would feel so hot, the humidity level would be high too! Wind you say? It would be absent ’till the rain day comes. So if the rain wouldn’t be there, you suffer! You wouldn’t understand the needs of your body! You shower with cold water but after a while upon going out of the bath, your sweat starts dripping again which entitles you to feel sticky all day long and makes you want to stay in the shower until the rain comes. Remembering it makes me say, “Ugh! that moment!”

2. “Cramming”

Yup! You read that right! That moment…Whether it’d be paperworks, reports or exams for tomorrow as long as it wasn’t done days before the deadline, you’d really feel that frustration and not to mention confusion as to what to do first. Yes you still have couple of hours to do those stuff you need to do, but, we all must admit our bodies also have needs such as food, hygiene and rest. All in all, the long hours you have in mind to do your requirement will break down to 1-5hours (that’s stretched though). Yes that agonizing moment will come to pass, but guess what, you could’ve done a better job out there if you had only managed yourself properly. One tip? Crash cramming out of your system! It’s one bad habit WE (yes WE, including me) all must omit.

3. That moment when ideas explode in your head and when you start writing nothing comes out of your hand

I bet this is one self-explanatory number. We all had that moment, and this is one of those moments. That is why I immediately blogged these thoughts, so that I may not forget. (haha! brilliant me!)

4. That accidental nap you took before actually going to bed

And now the monsters inside your head are already fully awake and you are completely wired. For what? Nothing! Because that is suppose to be the time you rest, but then you took a nap! You shouldn’t have! That moment when counting sheep to sleep won’t work is pretty agonizing. That’s basically me, right now! That’s why I said monsters, because they contribute ideas at the very unusual time of the day. (Time check: 1:09 AM) And yep it was pretty accidental, the nap. Ugh!

5. Class with a boring subject, boring teacher, and boring time of the day

This isn’t actually part of my top 5 but yeah #3 happened. I totally forgot what should be in this number. (haha) I am particularly not fond of Philippine History (poor memorization skills, sorry!) So when I enrolled in this class as a requisite minor subject for the course I’m in, I didn’t specifically choose on whose class and what time I’d be in as long as I’d be done with it after one summer. Too late to realize, that I should have been diligent in choosing that one minor subject. I was in the class of this particular teacher whose voice seemed like that of a robot, monotonous and lifeless, I couldn’t keep my eyes open! Plus I had at that “siesta” time of the day. Ugh! What more could I ask during that fun-filled (insert sarcasm) summer class. (haha)

My Take on Depression

DISCLAIMER:

Soooo. It took me 45 agonizing minutes just to type this first sentence. (haha) I was arguing with myself on the thoughts that came to my mind with regards to this topic. I was self-debating whether I should or should not focus on my own depression. Besides, as what my brother said, “The best people to describe a feeling is to experience it first hand”. But, I wouldn’t feel this post with depressing thoughts of mine. Instead, I will tell you how I am slowly overcoming my own depression. I wouldn’t say this is applicable to everyone who’s depressed, but this is how it worked for me. So here it goes… ^_^

BACKGROUND:

I’ve had depression since like I was grade 5 because I was wrongfully accused and betrayed by my friends and my teacher (okay, so let’s no go into details). So yes, I haven’t realized then that I was already experiencing depression along with insecurity, low self-esteem and self-pity. All I knew back then was that I no longer want to live another day in this world facing the same people. But since, the thought of death and dying scares me a lot (like a lot, lot), due to the idea of the existence of heaven and earth, I couldn’t kill myself. I have thoughts, yes. But I can’t perform such thoughts. Until now, these thoughts still come to mind especially when I’m idle (I’m slowly getting the hang out of it though).

It all starts with me recalling what happened way back then, then my lack of self-esteem starts attacking, then I start to self-pity (blaming my “ugliness” for being unwanted) then I start shoving people away from me (making me more lonely) then depressions creeps up. Then when I show up the next day (still having depression), there are two things I usually do, (a) I try my hardest not to show it, I laugh and smile as usual talking/communicating with the usual people (b) I show how depress I am by being socially awkward and withdrawing myself from the crowd (I want people to notice, I’m not okay)… I want them to save my from me ever endless depression. Depression is a cycle you must and can only stop yourself.

HOW DID I SAVE MY SELF FROM COMPLETELY DROWNING IN DEPRESSION?

Again, I am not saying this does apply to everyone out there whose depressed. But this is what I usually do when I’m already in the verge of drowning myself into it. Nope, I didn’t went to have a visit with a psychiatrist, these are purely impressed to me by God.

  1. USE YOUR BRAIN

Well, basically our brain is made to think so when you go idle, all sorts of thought comes into your mind. Hurts of the past, regrets, and all those negative stuff comes lurking inside your beautiful mind. Do something! Read books, watch movie, play sports, go job hunting, start a blog, think ideas for a business, whatever it takes just to keep your mind working. Just don’t stay idle. I’ve been doing this lately (though there are still times when I go idle but not for long now though) and it really improved my depression attacks. It may also work for you. You never know?

2.  BE THANKFUL!

The main cause of depression are negative thoughts being fed by the enemy (Satan – yes he exists!). So why not, start thinking of the things you want to thank God for? I bet there would be so many. You don’t know what to thank God for? You might want to start with being thankful for another life He gave you today. Not everyone wakes up every single day (reality), but then He still allowed you to wake up today! Isn’t that something to thank Him for?

I suggest you keep a Thanksgiving Jar/Grateful Jar. Everyday you write just one thing you want to thank God for. You’ll be surprised that when you get used to writing thanksgiving, you’ll be able to write even more than one thanksgiving everyday. I just started mine, why don’t you start one yourself too! It sure helps!

3.   LISTEN TO THE RIGHT SONGS

Who doesn’t like music? May it be rock, classic, pop, RnB, just whatever genre of music everyone’s got their own pick right? But we should all be mindful of the lyrics of the songs we’re listening to. Not all has positive effect on us. You might want to check out what the song means before you listen to it. When you’re depressed, it doesn’t mean you have to listen to an upbeat music. The tempo of the music doesn’t really matter, what matters is the message of the song you’re listening to. Because it’s what the brain processes and comprehends. So try listening to positive songs and not those bitter and sad songs. This works for me all the time. I listen to songs of Kari Jobe, Hillsongs, other inspirational artists. There are tons of them. You wouldn’t have a hard time looking for these kinds of songs

4.   SURROUND YOURSELF WITH GOOD FRIENDS

I don’t know with you, but when I’m depressed, I usually shove away my friends. Some of them stay and comfort me, but most of them (sadly) goes away. You need to pick the right friends. Those who are ready to hear your depressing thoughts, and prays for you after. Those who don’t only stay when you’re happy but also stays when you have your depression episodes. I found mine. You should also find yours. These people will be there to pray for you and slap you with reality that you might have drifted away long time ago.

5.   READ YOUR BIBLE AND PRAY

Okay, So this may sound so cliché but among the list. This is the most effective one. Since depression is mostly the work of the enemy, you should work with the enemy’s enemy – GOD. I have this one particular verse in the bible which always helps me out of my depression.

Psalm 73:25-25

Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever

And when you start having depressing thoughts into your mind, this verse will remind you not to entertain those thoughts.

Philippians 4:8

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy –  think about such things.

Again, I won’t say that this is the only way out of your depression. But you might want to try? Basically you won’t lose anything if you try. You’re already in your rock bottom state (I know that feeling), save yourself from getting drowned down there. Just try. Who knows?

Moving On

Last March 28-April 4, 2014 me and my friends Yen and Maden attended the PLTI (PSALM Leadership Training Institute) with the theme “Moving On” procured from Isaiah 43: 18-19. This is a nationwide event, therefore there are participants all over the Philippines. Its all so fun and exciting to get to know people from different places in the Philippines. I know it has been too long since the training, but since I still couldn’t “Move On”, I’ll blog about it instead. (haha)

The 7-day event was held at Dao, Pagadian City. There are 4 (four) different levels you’ll go through as you repetitively join the training every year. The said levels are Basic, Advanced, Specialized and Administrative levels, and me and yen are in Specialized level already. Participants of this level before told us that this is the most relaxed and fun level among the four levels. We did so many activities. One of which is (and my favorite) is the Song composition based on the theme “Moving On”. The section/group’s song that’ll be chosen will become the batch’s graduation song. Since I’m really very proud of the song that our section/group made (It’s Passionate by the way, our section’s name), which was chosen as the graduation song. Imma share it you guys. 😀

And oh by the way, here are some of the photos taken during the training. There are lots, but of course I just chose the ones that has me on it. (hehehehe)

Time Travel Tuesday

Since my summer getaway will still be this Saturday, let me share to you one summer escaped I had last year with my high school batchmates in Midway Resort, Initao.

It’s a man-made White sand resort. But still worth-it with the clear blue green waters and nice sunset/sunrise view. Many local photographers do photoshoots in this place because it’s the nearest White Sand Resort in Cagayan de Oro and it doesn’t look any cheaper than those from far away areas like Camiguin. Entrance way back 2013 is 25php, I don’t know if it still has the same price today. They also have different activities to offer like coral reef watching for 30mins, Banana boat ride for 10pax, Zipline and more!

Well, here are some of the photos taken in Midway. Due to the very beautiful sunset we took much photos of ourselves rather than that of the activities we did. 😀

If you’re a resident of Cagayan de Oro City, I suggest you visit this place as well. It’s just a 45min-ride from the city and you’ll already get to feel fresh air, white sand and clear salty waters. 🙂

When God Made You

A bride in white beautifully adorned wedding gown walking slowly down the isle to the tune of the wedding melody ringing throughout the church’s infrastructure. Awwwweee, don’t you just love weddings? I, myself dreamt of the day that I’ll be the one walking on the same Isle as hers with the man I love waiting for me in front. (Plus points if he will cry as my friend always say! :D) I dreamt of the day that I too can sing the same lyrics of the song “When God Made You” to my other half. ❤

Oh well so much for day dreaming, let’s proceed to the wedding of the year. Last April 25, 2014, I was invited to Atsi Karla and Kuya Ace’s wedding. The event was grand and intimate. Relatives and close friends were the only ones who were invited. From the venue of the wedding ceremony to the reception, everything was thoroughly thought of and carefully planned. #TravelWithSpruce

April is indeed a busy month for me. Aside from the fact that it’s my birth month, I was also invited into several events. One of the event I was invited by my Photographer friend Florence V., to the mini Spruce “Picnic Party” at Lifestyle District last April 12, 2014. I know, I know this post is long overdue and I must be ashamed of myself for posting this blog so late. But as the saying goes, “Better late than never”, so I’m still posting this thing here! 🙂

On the event, I’m not really fond of girly stuffs, but I should say I was really mesmerized by the cute set-up of the whole place. My attention was caught especially by the Vintage set-up on the front and on each tables.

A Night To Remember

Since it’s Throwback Thursday today and people are still all high and up for the hearts month, February. I’m going to post my outfit on our church’s event for Valentine’s day “A Night to Remember”.

Last year I was also happily single and not bitter so I volunteered to be an Usher during our church’s event for couples (married/dating) and surrounded myself with these awesome people.
